The "I said I'd never do this" Bobber Build

wonder if that would hook up on a blaster like a trail tech...

although it's waterproof, it has too many unneeded functions for a blaster, and the trailtechs are cheaper.

had a little time to finally get started on my battery box, using a common 8 x 8 x 4" deep hoffman box available at any electrical supply.
my measurements show about 6" max front to rear to reuse the existing exhaust H box mounts underneath.
so the 8 x 8 needs reduced to 8 x 6.
a little cutting, drilling out spot welds to release the end cap, and reweld it back on with new spot welds ................

FINALLY !!!!
found a few hours to play :)

as it sits with the ducati shock

another major hurdle out of the way....head pipes aiming straight for the pegs/frame :(
the original H-box underneath where my battery will go had lower exits which allowed the mufflers to mount up lower than the head pipes went in and pass underneath the pegs, with what I wanted the head pipes were directly inline with the pegs and frame.

to pass under it was on an unacceptable angle
IMG_20150607_093036685.jpg

a lil redneck engineering to open the pipe radius up
IMG_20150607_102931941.jpg

and we have alignment :)
IMG_20150607_095758743.jpg

clears the frame and pegs, the muffler bracket needs shortened, bends(?) and will go under that big nut.
pay no attention to those FUGLY rubber pegs, I've got a few things in mind :)
IMG_20150607_100325039.jpg

I also have various ideas on how to rework the rear drum brake pedal/system, but thats another day...
cable driven ? rework the stock setup with pedal modification ? or hydro to pull the mechanical drums ?

same on the other side, clears peg/frame/shifter, but the original kickstand which I had cut shorter for the blue ninja shock was in the way
IMG_20150607_103411681.jpg

I found this kicker on ebay listed as not from, yet fits a cx500.
it's perfect and folds away without interferring with the muffler :)

this thinga-ma-job ? will get trimmed, and it needs the spring attachment pin relocated up
IMG_20150607_105222479.jpg

the ducati shock height and this kickstand have it sitting perfect :)

and the battery box that I'm not real happy with, it just sticks down too low for the full size gel battery I went with, it'll have to do for now but a good probability I'll go with a smaller battery in the future ?

had a day off between jobs today :)

no more mechanical fan

electric fan mounted

took 3 different cuts and some grinding to get the end of the cam cut back far enuf, (where the original mechanical fan mounted too)
I kept it cool while cutting with a spray bottle of water

Danmoto 180 gauges mounted, bent up a little 50 series .125 aluminum, shaped and sandblasted,
being the powermadd bar risers are CNC'd out of a solid block of aluminum, it allowed enuf beef to drill n tap right into it

I can now cut off those extra mount tabs from the silver bar clamps I thought I was going to use to mount this

the bar riser still needs rolled back a little and the gauge will roll right with it

got rear fender brackets fabbed up and ready for welding also, but forgot to get pics.
the forks are at my buddies for rebuilding, he's also gonna remove the spring from the ducati shock so I can paint it.
foot pegs/mounts are at this lil old dude machinist for an adapter block to mount the new pegs into

Wont be long for a ride report, looking good.

thanx Mike, but gonna be a while yet.

my local old dude garage machinist doesn't F around, dropped these pegs off for some magic on tuesday and he called today with the results ...............BMX bike Beartraps :)

he machined the aluminum adapter piece where the original fugly rubber peg mounted, to allow me to thread these, or any peg/pedal with 1/2 thread in.
IMG_20150702_162335136_HDR.jpg

not sure why he threw those bolts and double nuts in ?
I'll figure sumthin nicer out
IMG_20150702_162308853_HDR.jpg

Yes, they still rotate as intended for the BMX, once i get closer to done, I'll drill and setscrew these stationary where they feel comfortable

Neat idea,Those footpegs look good on a motorcycle !

thanx.
this was different than anything I've seen others do.
but I've actually been staying off the custom build websites and others build threads on forums since i started this, trying to think for myself and outside the box :)

thanx,
is it ?...same 'ol budgetblaster from days gone by ?

Oh no Im just now joining this forum after using it for a long time to lookup information and specs etc.. never really had the patience to make an account. I only know that you typically have very useful Posts wether it's a "how to" or schooling the non mechanically inclined on how stuff works so I glanced through your bobber build. I like it alot lol
