stator what is the diff. between 4 and 5 wire have one with 5 wires and one with 4 what is the differance
 
On the newer (03+) blasters, the CDI was grounded away from errant noise. The 88-02's had the floating ground between the source coil and the lighting coil which could create noise (very unlikely scenario).

The 5th wire is a ground wire for the source coil. If you have a 88-02 quad and get a 5 wire stator, you can just make a jumper for that wire to a clean ground on the frame and it'll work fine. If you have an 03+ quad and get a 4 wire stator, you can run another wire into the stator housing and hook a loop terminal under one of the mounting bolts on the stator plate and it'll still work. Either way, it's just the ground for the source coil instead of the coil being grounded to it's mounting tab...
