Hey there all u blaster bikersI:I
So im new to this forum and it's sick...loving it! Bought my first quad ever as I have always just driven 2 wheel dirtbikes. Yeahhh and u guessed it ..it's a Blaster:D I got it 2 weekends ago for about $400 in your term. A real good buy.
The whole bike is in superb condition and only need to get a new cylinder and piston kit for it. So I already took the motor out and going to start stripping it to do inspection seeing that everything is stil fine and will be replacing seals and gaskets. Going to rip the bike apart this weekend till only the frame is left standing..lol Gonna paint her and make it look neat again...thinking of a custom paintjob but will see once im at that stage. Really looking forward to this build.

Nice start , Looks like it's mostly all Original for the most part , There is allot of great Ideas and info on here , Make sure when you take the bottom end of motor apart you At least by a Flywheel Puller , Clutch holding tool , And you can buy A Cheap Harmonic balancer puller to split the cases with ! , That's what I used Instead of buying Case Splitter/ Puller , Also Stay away from the Green colored Gaskets as there Cheap , Use either OEM or Cometic , Or Moose Gaskets are good as well !

Thanx for the info bro :)

Orded the flywheel puller and its on the way, still need to get a clutch holding tool...and i think somewhere in my gaurauge ill probably find a harmonic balancer puller, so cheers to that.

With all u guys, such as yourself on here...doing this build will go smoothly thats for sure.

The guy who had it before me had no idea what he was doing:-/
His fuel/oil mix was way off running much more fuel than oil and caused the top section to seize up.. the piston broke and got so hot that it actualy started to melt on the one side. The aloy comming of the piston even melted into the sleeve. I have never seen this in my life before.
..and as I was inspecting the cylinder, I found that they had re-sleeved it but did a terrable job, welded it and drilled holes on the top of the cylinder...its just bad !! Took it to a yamaha mech and he just shook his head saying...throw it away. So Im getting a new cylinder, thats a fact!

The oil ratio was possibly not the reason for the melt down.

The problem was more than likely caused by an air leak or improper jetting.

Those pics shout out loudly, Detonation caused by a fuel lean mixture.

You are right..defnitly an air leak. It sucked air into the combustion chamber through those holes that they drilled on top of the cylinder into the sleeve.

Every Cylinder that I have looked at new or old that was stocked looks like they all have been re-sleeved. I ordered a new sleeve and found out that it still looks like that... LOL
I would look at little deeper before you purchase and see if it can be honed first. It may save you some money…

But did they also had the small holes on top??, cause I had a look at a stock cylinder and a modded one and they both dont have those small holes. See the guy before me took it to be re-sleeved to a backyard engineer that defnitly did not do a good job, he wasn't supose to drill holes on the top of the cylinder sleeve.. With those holes there the copper headgasket has no purpose cause it still sucking air to the chamber

So the weekend I started to tear down the blaster and its almost ready for sandblasting, just a few more things to take off.

Here some pics of how it looked and as I was stripping it down.B)

I am thinking of a Metallic purple and gloss black theme as I will on a later stage be giving it to my wife when I get a Banshee. But I dont just want any purple or a plain purple, it must really shine and stand out. I think it will look great. Will polish a few parts to make it even more of a head-turner ..
