what causes a woodruff key to beak or shear??? and what would the bike do if it was boroken?

it would pop, backfire, run sh*tty, and may even run backwards. sometimes they just break

if u dont tighten the flywheel all the way down it will shear a key in a second

maybe that is what happend to me. i went to a hardware store and tried to match it up as best as i could i hope it works. i also think the engine rotated backwards and broke the gear on the basket when i was kicking it. any pointers on matching up a new key?????

The stealership near you will have one or can order one. They are about 2 bucks.

From a dealer they are about $3 each. Make sure you use some threadlock medium strength on flywheel nut. I've learned from a lot of experience!! I have tried to find elsewhere with no luck, I believe they are 3mm

I have matched them up from a hardware store before and it worked out just fine. A few weeks ago a customer bike came into the shop i frequent and had a "no spark issue" After kicking it and hearing the flywheel clunking around I knew it was the wooddruff key. It was late, no shops where open and then customer needed the bike back my the morning for a ride. So, we made one. Worked great, well after we figured the parking break over ride was causing it not to spark.
