VIN

im new to the blaster ownership and new to this site. ive been reading everything i can in many threads. info in all the posts is great!
my question is i found my VIN, cleaned the paint off exsposing the stamped in #. my issue/ question is, there is only 16 digits stamped in the frame...from what i have read there are supose to be 17...any ideas why im short a digit? i have triple checked to make sure i was seeing all the digits, im 100% there are only 16....other than telling me im blind and the 17th digit is there, any advise?

are there any grinding marks near it like it was ground off? i believe there is a vin on the engine maybe check that and see if that has 17 digits? maybe someone knows why you only have 16 digits and theyll chime in

there arent any grinding or scratching marks of any kind. the digits that are there are crisp. i will try and find the #s on the engine block as you suggest.

You count back 8 from the last number for the year made.

my 8th digit from the end is "Y" which makes it a 00 according to yor chart.

did you count backwards 8 digits from the end ?
if it was an 04, it would already have the hydro brakes and new style hood/headlight

if i got the vin right on the pink one it is a 1987i had to use paint thinner to take the paint off, but the vin is hard to see before paint and after paint.

call a dealership and read it off to them they will tell you.....it not at top of my mind right now but i beleive it is tenth digit .......right to left.....same way your reading this.......
