I was thinking this over yesterday when I went to the stealership. I had to pick up an OEM woodruff key and hadn't been to this dealership in a long ass time....probably 7-8 years. I went in there and it was deader than hell. There were only 3 new Yamaha quads for sale. 1 was a 2011 Raptor 700, but the other 2 were semi scratched up and DUSTY 08 Raptor 350 and YFZ. There was a used modded Z400 in there, but it got me thinking as I only know like 2 people that have ever bought a quad brand spankin new and that was my buddies DS450 in 08 and Outlaw 525 last year. Question is......are the manufacturer's really getting anything out of it to produce ATVs anymore with the market the way it is nowadays? I mean obviously somebody has to be buying them new since there are used ones out there, but with this stealership(and the one near it) having leftovers from 2008 including other KFX450s, TRX700s, 450Rs, etc. it makes me wonder. Personally, I'd never buy anything new when I can get it for less than half the price used, but that's just me.

there will always be a market for quads. always. i will never buy a new one cause for the money i could put into a new one i could highly mod my blaster. new suspension and new top end will give me a new quad essentially.

I know, but that's usually what I hear from everybody. :-/

Hell the 08 dusty YFZ there was going for like $8 grand. I mean screw that. I could find a DAMN NICE used YFZ for $4 and I would have an extra $4 grand to play with in mods. Hell I can find a YFZ for $2000 if I look hard enough.

i didnt read your sig. i thought you had the race hood. i didnnt realize yours are shaved too. but i still want an extended swingarm and different front bumper and your seat.

Neah I stole Rippinitup's shaved fender look from BlasterHQ. B) I have no clue where my extended swingarm came from.....it needs powdercoated in a bad way. I might do that if I ever switch to hydro rears.......which is looking more and more likely every day. I saw a full Nac's seat/graphics on a white plastic Blaster before. I liked the looks of it quite a bit. You should get a hold of Nac's and see if they could hook you up somehow.

buying new avoids almost all problems with getting ripped off, We bought our 2006 polaris sportsman 450 new and a few other machines a long time ago, warranty would cover any factory defects, never had a problem with the quad or the dealer we bought from. I know others that will only buy new, most of my friends' quads were. We will probably buy another new one soon.

I solve that problem by buying a heap in the first place. If I wanted a Banshee I would buy one that looked like it was in shambles with a fried top end for $600......why?......because it's all getting torn apart and modded anyways so why buy new? :D People see a heap....I see a stripped, gussetted, and powdercoated frame, ported/new cylinder top end, stroker crank/long rod, etc, etc.

Granted you got a sportsman.......even so, it's not like I can't do a comp test and my own diagnostics looking at the quad itself. If the owner doesn't let me check that out on his used utility ATV.......he can go have fun wasting his time. The other nice thing about buying used is you already get an idea of the track record of certains quads/years for ones that were better than others or recurrent issues that certain models/years experienced before hand. Sure, a warranty will probably cover it for a certain length of time, but it's just a pain in the ass. Just my take.

i dunno if i'd buy new or not. if had a money tree i would, but since i don't i'll stick to used, but nice condition quads. also, the factory warranty on most will be void if you do any upgrades.

Even if I had millions of dollars, I would still buy a heap and/or used quad simply because it's an absolute waste of money and a new quad for me to buy one when I'm simply scrapping a lot of the parts and modding the quad anyways. Like I said, that's just me. Whether I pay full price and mod the quad or pay half(or less) the price and mod the quad, the end result is the exact same........except buying used I saved money and somebody else still has the opportunity to buy and own a stock quad if that's their thing.

It's so hard to buy a good utility ATV used because they are packed with computers, the 4x4 shaft drive system, the engine itself etc, all packed into that frame and you can't tell if anythings wrong til you've ridden it for a few weeks. and people tend to be jackasses with them, sinking them, custom snorkeling, and other backyard mechanic work. If I buy any 4x4 quad it will be new.

I:I Aint that the truth. We flipped a Recon off the top of a bridge and landed upside into a creek........accidentally obviously.

Farmer's in general beat the hell out of their quads. I'm not a farmer and lived in the city and most of the city kid's keep up with the maintenance of their quads/bikes and take pretty good care of them. Just about every farmer, hick, or country/rural person I've seen, they just beat the ever living hell out of them and just fire them up and rip it up without warming them up and submarine them, crash into crap left and right and what not. Rarely do maintenance until it blows and they might look at you weird if you ask them when they changed their oil last. :-/
