Handling deep water

well most people dont do that with blasters. thats what 4x4s are for...

4x4s are for old folks! Too slow.
More water video, portions of this run are over 3' deep with big rocks and logs.
Blaster will float over deep sections if you keep the power to it.

That is me on the left, in a sea of 4x4s. Quickest machine there by far and went everywhere they did.

IMO you should buy a 4x4. there are lots 4x4 quads that will smoke a blaster in a race if that's what you're worried about. Then that poor 2wd blaster won't suffer any more.

Ha! No they won't.
That is a KTM 250 motocross engine in that thing, about 50hp stock, in a 300 lbs quad. Great gobs of power. Notice I am feathering the throttle, don't have to rev it out? My last quad was a 660 Raptor and this little baby will SMOKE the Raptor. 70mph just as fast as you can click the gears to it. Most important to me, this little puppy was built, not bought. Some people have got more money than brains, they buy their way in.

I love the light weight of the Blaster. Being able to wheelie up and over logs and rocks. The speed when I have a clear section. The workout and body english it takes to make this thing do its magic. You guys (and my son!) put me onto this little beast, you've created a monster! I love it!

Slap a set of 18" or 20" tires and a 14 tooth sprocket on it and I have a flat tracking rocket. Show me a hill, pick any gear, she's got the guts. No 400+ lbs complicated 4 stroke. Simple and light. Reverse? kick her back with your foot or spin it around. Stuck? Lift it out, simple and easy!

Here is how I sealed the airbox. Foam strips under the seat seal on the edge of the box around the sides and the back. Takes air in from between the seat and the tank and from under the tank cover. The seat becomes the lid of the airbox. Uses a large round paper air filter, but I may go back to foam. Notice the sheet aluminum to the front blocking off air and water from underneath, and the foam gasket to raise the air filter up. Some muddy water still got into the airbox (you saw how deep this thing was in the water?) but did not get past the air filter. (I didn't need those spare plugs)

Carb and intake details. Long intake seems to contribute to lower rpm torque as well.
This engine was a high rpm screamer in the motorcycle, but much torquier with the mods in the Blaster.
Yup, chain is loose. 3 days of hard running in water (non-O-ring) and mud will do this.
Wasn't touched with a wrench for this whole run. Carb hoses off, there were problems here with water and they need re-routing into the airbox.

Didn't need the rope, but always good to have one!

nice vids best !!!!
and buy a 4x4 may azz, best needs a damn boat !!!!!

Is it the pic or is the front sprocket a tad worn?

It may be a tad worn. It was good but not new before the trip and we put a lot of miles on. I probably put twice as many miles on because I was so much faster I ran ahead and did scout duty. It is only a 12t and has been run a while. I like to run as big a front sprocket as I can for wear but I was limited to 44t on the back and I needed the 12t for ratio. Still pretty high sped and it wears the nylon swingarm guide. When I go back to smaller tires I'll put a bigger one on.

I didn't always get through on the first try...

great vids man! run the hell outta that little blasty. Ask anyone that was at busco. I'm not scared of mud or ponds. lol

Or breaking bones/bruising entire portions of your body!

I know, I think I was standing there/riding with you for all but one of the major boo-boo's you had!

Steve, Good pics, beautiful riding and great job showing them up with the blasty!

4x4s are not always the best ...they are to heavy and sink...sport atvs with mud tires float..

They do float! No winch required.
In this vid I was just sitting on thick mud on the bottom. When I stepped off the Blaster I was up to my waist in water, with rocks here and there making it thigh deep. I am a dedicated motorcycle guy but these mud holes swamped my dirtbike three years in a row as I hit glancing blows on rocks and logs I could not see under the muddy water. BAM! I was underwater quicker than I could react.

If you cannot see the video, you may have to open up Facebook (or get an account) to make it work. I'll try to post to YouTube too.
What I am pointing at in this vid is a GPS that I saw floating by as I was making across the slough.

Find the floating GPS! | Facebook

With me off the Blaster it will easily float slightly nose down with the front wheels at axle depth and the rears only about 1/4 submerged.
It was remarkably stable and easy to push to the other shore.

So, if it is this deep, do you want to keep going?

He wins this time. Some of these bikes are fitted with snorkels, some are completely stock.

Just go to the salvation army and buy up as many life jackets you can find , and zip tie them to the blasty , lol she'll float like a boat all day long !!

Hey
Great vids , i also love the mud and water heres a recente one of mine:
TT rota do esporão - YouTube
I was the only 2WD to get trought without help

Major thing is bearings, chain , brake pads , discs everything just weres out really fast

Nuno

Sweet Nuno.
Hard to keep them from high centering.
I find my stock width was an advantage because I had lots of room to pick my line and straddle the ruts left by 4x4s. Being narrow meant I had lots of room.

This is a buddy of mine.
I know it is 4wd but it is hoot watching him wrestle the machine through the mud and water. He is actually floating through the deepest part. By getting up and shifting his weight on the machine he is able to take it through some incredible places. It works well with our Blasters but I have to admit, I am getting to be an old dog. Not a lot of wrestle left in me at the end of the day!

Randy wrestling his Honda through deep water

It looks like fun but not something I would want to do with my Blaster.

Some's for show, some's for go!

My bikes are no show queens. Scratches and dents and bent and missing pieces.
My own body is much the same. What is the line?
"The goal is not to arrive at the grave in perfect shape... but rather to skid in sideways, worn out, shouting what a ride!"

Some guys like to ride, some guys just sit home and polish theirs! :)
