I just finished putting my case back together after opening it up to pull part of a wrist bearing out after it fell in while replacing my piston. I noticed that I somehow bent the shift cam stopper while pulling the case apart. I removed the stopper and straightened it without trouble then put it back on. It seems to fit perfectly into the small cutout on the tooth of the shift cam. I put everything back together and the first time I started it I found it won’t shift out of neutral. The ratchet on the shift shaft does not turn the shift cam; it engages the pegs but the cam does not turn at all. I have done just about every rebuild chore that one can do on a Blaster but I have almost zero transmission experience. Is the cam supposed to turn? I assumed (I’m probably wrong) that the shift shaft should rotate the cam one “space” each time it is shifted and that the tooth with the cut out on it is for neutral. Am I wrong? My manual doesn’t address this at all—it just tells me how to remove and install it. When I push or lift the shift lever it gives a popping feel ( like it’s shifting) but the motor doesn’t shift.
    Thanks

The shift star has to be lined up with notches in case when separating cases from clutch side.do you have any pictures.i would pull clutch cover and have a look.check springs on shift shaft. If you have help. Have someone turn sprocket and try shifting up or down while watching shift shaft and star.it could be a shift fork issue if shift star got caught on case when separating them?

The shift drum/star stays in the right case. Newer models the star is welded to drum.
Go back through the assembly instructions and make sure you did it correctly. Your part name/description does not match common terms, pictures would help.

    Thank
Thanks for all the replies and help. Just after I posted that I ended up splitting the case. It looks like the transmission was binding. I had joined the case halves without using a crank puller. It was not easy and I think it led to binding. The dumb thing is that I have a crank puller I just didn’t use it because I was only putting the case back together around the crank. Bad idea. And it was waaay easier to just use the puller. Lesson learned. The transmission seems to shift fine now.
