[my first time installing a clutch............does the plates have to be in special order.

Yes they do, especially if the wavy washer is being used.

The best advice one could give w/o being there is take a picture of the clutch before you disassemble it and make notes about how it comes apart. Keep it all neat and orderly and it should go back together easily and simply. This could be said for anything you do to your machine
