splitting cases is the safest way to go about it.But i have friends that have flushed out bottom end with keroseen just make sure u flush it out good..drain oil then put oil plug back in fill with kerosen they they would kick it over with there hands easy a few times drain it out then repeat several times..Im sure there are other ways also..
