hello all,

I just wanted to stop by and say hello. My name is Jason, im married and have a 11 month old son. (Whom i really wanted to get the quad for even though he cant ride it anytime soon) Im new to quads but have owned a couple trikes. I got my 2001 Blaster by acquiring it in a trade. I traded my 2000 F350 crew cab dually for an 07' F150 and to add on his end he threw in the blaster which he couldnt get running. Anyways long story short, when I got it home I checked for spark which it had and put some fuel in it and turned the fuel valve on and it wouldnt start....

so I grabbed my can of starting fluid and sprayed just a small amount of it and kicked over the blaster...what do you know???? it started!! So itll start with starting fluid and then run off of the fuel in the tank but it wont start on its own with the choke on or off. Any ideas there ? Im not good with carburetors as I have not been around much other then diesels.

Sorry for the long winded post but I wanted to say hello and I look forward to learning everything I can from this forum.

welcome you will find lots of advice here it sounds to me like carb issues I would leak test it and if that's good clean the carb and don't forget to plug chop[there are threads on here that explain plug chopping and leak testing] oh and starting fluid is a no no bad for 2 strokes

Thx for the reply Harley. I knew Id get a response about the starting fluid. I didnt have any premixed fuel so....yea my fault. Its not something I'll continue. Ill have to search for the leak testing procedure and plug chopping.

Welcome Jason. You will enjoy your blaster! Search the forum for how to clean your carb, and just about anything else you can think of. Put up some pics of it when you get a chance

I did not read through Awk's links, so I do not know if bad reeds were mentioned.

Reeds can have a big say in not starting.

Awesome and thank you everyone for the input.

TONIGHT I MADE A TRADE..............

I traded my 1984 Honda ATC 125M that was in pieces for...

10 wheels and tires ranging from stock blaster tires to holeshots with all of them being in good to very good condition. 3 Blaster frames, a 98, a 2000 and a 2001. A ton of a-arms, 3 rear axles with carriers and sprockets, 6 front hubs and brakes (brake shoes) with 2 engines that need put back together. The wife will be pissed when she sees it in the morning but I know I'll still be smiling haha plus she said I could and it beats the $90 I was offered for my trike. I think I made a good trade but thats just me. I'd upload pics but I'm not sure how just yet.

Sounds like a good trade! I:I

Make sure the frames dont have cracks if you use one of them, and i suggest gusseting the frame :D

How to post picture in my signature I:I

Welcome man, you got a good trade. Blasters are super fun quads. Just got off riding in the snow.

Sounds like a sweet deal Jason. Now build 2 blasters out of all the parts you have. That way your boy will have one too when he's ready. Best thing to do is get a game and pull all the parts out for the planned build(s). Sell the rest and put them towards aftermarket parts.

Plenty of people on this site willing to help. Welcome aboard.

thanks everyone for the help and input. Its much appreciated !!! I just got hired on with CSX as a diesel mechanic for the railroad so Ill be leaving soon ( Janurary 12th ) for THE REDI school in ATL for about 5 weeks so I wont have much time if any to work on anything from now until I get back but you can bet your A** I'll be researching.

I do have a quick question....my future brother in law hates Blasters and thinks theyre too small. Im 5'7 & 155lbs. I like mine and think it has plenty of pep for me. Nothing ever has enough power but oh well lol. Do people just get bored with these too quick or whats the hype on them being a smaller quad?

Blasters were designed as a entry level quad. With some time and money they can be whatever you want. I am 6' 225 lbs and it is by far the best trail quad I have ever ridden. It's all in what you make it. They can also make a lot of power if built right.
