IS there anyway to see if a crankshaft is still in good shape or anything without sending it to a shop?

You could check side-to-side play with feeler-gauges. The maximum tolerance for side-to-side play is very very very little. You could also check your crank bearings by wiggling your flywheel. If there is any movement at all, your crank bearings are garbage.

there needs to be absolutely no up and down play on the big end rod bearing. hold the crank still and pull up and down on the rod to see if you feel ANY up and down movement. if there is ANY your crank is bad. and like awk said check the side to side to specs
