Crank play after installing primary gears

Did a leak down test and found a leak where the crankshaft and bushing meet on the clutch side. Also a little air pressure would push the collar out. I got it pretty well sealed by smearing some Motoseal inside the collar and slipping it back over the shaft and into the case, but now I have play in the crankshaft that was not there before installing the primary gear with the collar all the way in. Only thing I can think of it that the collar isn't staying seated all the way. How tight should the collar be? I'm able to push it in by hand. Tried with a spare collar, and the same thing.

I should add that when I installed the crank, it slid into the cases easily. I didn't have to use a press or anything.

Also, is it possible that the bearing isn't all the way seated in the case since I didn't press it? If so, am I able to press it in without splitting the cases again?
