i was wondering if anyone has tried performance cdi boxes. if so, do they make a big power difference?

i had a "hotshot cdi", but installed it during my porting rebuild, so i didnt get to notice if there was any gains from it,
i have since sold it, on craigslist, not here, <because there has been negative talk about heat problems from them on here on here, and my builder "KEN OCONNOR RACING" had a discussion with a former
factory yamaha engineer, and was told stay away from them because ......"timing advances are dangerous power"
