So I own a 98 Yamaha blaster, completely stock aside from a fmf fatty 3 piece exhaust, then I have a 2002 Yamaha blaster which is bored out to 240cc. The 98 has a quite a bit more top speed. I’m a little puzzled... anybody know if theres a big difference between a 98 model engine vs. a 2002? Both have stock bottom ends as well as carbs

The only difference is that 03-06 have hydro brakes and a different CDI box.
Tire size, gearing, tired engine all play into the equation.

FYI, I seriously doubt you have a "true" 240. An engine bored .040" is not. Seeing that a Blaster is actually only 197cc, I doubt it makes it 200cc. There's a chart showing bore to displacement size.
A true 240 is 6mm over bore.
