Nope, not unless you have a leak. I like using a little Permatex with my VF3's, but I don't feel its essential unless the cage won't seal with the gaskets. My VF3's wouldn't seal well unless I gooped it, but this isn't always the case.

Ah, Ok. I ran a 148 main, and, I THINK a 48 pilot. I would buy 145-155 mains and a 45 pilot just in case. A non-ported top end will probably run better on a 45 pilot than a 48 pilot.
