Hi , I want to know what would be the best sprocket combination for my blaster , I use it on mud and lots of road what do you guys think I should use . When in mud I go to really fun and hard roads I was thinking on only putting a 14 on front and leave the back original , what do you guys think ?:-/

I have 14/40 gearing myself, as well as many other members of the site. Its a perfect setup for trails, mud, snow, occasional road, dirt. Its deffinately the best way to go for your type of riding, you'll enjoy it since you ride on the ride, it increases speed.

a 14t front is gonna require 2 extra links for the chain, at least thats what i had to cut out when going back to a 13t front with the 40 rear that came with the 14/40 chainset
i hated the 14 in the tight trails

Huh.... I was told by multiple members that I could use the stock chain as is for 14 front and 40 rear....

I have the stock chain on a 14 tooth.

Awk could your chain of been streched while using the 14t then when you put on the 13t you cut it to be tight and still have full adjustment.

first off, you guys should know better than to suggest i was running a stretched chain, i replace mine new at the beginning of every riding season, need it or not,
it's a very long walk home from some places on this mountian, one i have yet to make
as with most of my maintenence, i'm way ahead of it
maybe you guys are switching to 14t's with used, stretched chains

i bought a 14/40 gearset with chain, like brand new from a member on here, it fit right on, within a few rides i decided i wanted my 4th/5th gear wheelie machine back,
and got a brand new 13t back for the front, < yeah new, slightly worn old 13, told ya i was ahead of the game
i had to remove 2 full links to get my full swinger adjustment back
and stock gearing is 13/39, maybe i'm missing sumthin but 14/40 takes more chain, 2 more teeth = 2 more chain links

that was on my stock swinger, when i got my +2 T-rock, i ordered a new shee chain for it

maybe yours are different, but thats my experience, i even still have the 2 links i cut out

and yes, lots of guys on here like 14t front sprockets,
to go race the 400ex's in the open feilds
if you want more top speed, 14t
if you want explosive acceleration and quickness in the trails, 13t

Your right awk I added two links also when i went to 14t.

wow really?? i love the 15 tooth front and it still pulls the wheels up even when i dont want it to haha  . i do have above average power though, with a stockish engine do what awk said I:I

I just bought 3 factory stock yamaha chains off a guy on ebay. They are oem part numbers in the yamaha package and they fit fine with the 14. I was a little worried, but there is plenty of slack with a stock chain. Best part is I gave $35 shipped for all 3 lol.

stock gearing is 13/40 on every blaster i have seen over the years. gearing will depend on riding conditions and modifications.

that is correct, apparently one of my used blasters had a 39 on it,
and prolly the only one i actually counted the teeth ???
and i prolly got further confused by ebay listing 14/40 as "more speed" chainsets, and possibly a few 13/40 sets listed as "more power" ???
making me believe the 40 was a step bigger ???

so that being the case, why the need for 2 full extra links that slick and i have both experienced when going to a 1 tooth extra front sprocket ???

is that not the direct result of more torque from a + crank ???
(serious question about your old +3 setup)
which i do not run....yet !!!!

The factory chains that I got are actually DID o ring chains so I don't think that is the issue. All I know is if you go and buy a factory yamaha chain for a blaster it will fit with a 14 sprocket.

That is weird My sprocket and chain are from Primary drive and it was a 94 link! i thought -Stock is 92. What the hell is going on! Either way we all got it running!

Maybe I missed it, but what size tires are you running? Your gearing can be greatly affected by your tire size as well.

I have 22 inch tires, but i can still fling it up no problem 99 percent of the time. And you also have more than double the power i have
