The start of my ground up build..

Found another "REAL" Cometic gasket in my Yamaha box (aluminum core one) ,, matched it to cyl and cases and torqued her down.. And it didn't leak!!!!! go figure :D.. Happy as a pig is Shiz right now.. After being 1 nut away from motor being assembled and then to have it snap,,, then a complete motor rebuild with new cases,, f'd up cylinder (then fixed) then 2 chit base gaskets leaking and now I am leak free !!! The sun finally shines on this dogs azz tonight.. I know it's minor but after one stupid thing after another it feels good for things to finally work as they should..

Rounds on me ;)...

Not much to update but i finally had some time to work on the blasty for a little bit. I got the front and rear brakes blead put some new grips on and thats about it for now. I also had to move my steering stabelizer around cus when i put my front plastics on i noticed it would hit the plastics when turned far to one direction so i got that sorted out also. Plus I couldnt get sark at first and realized where my ground wire was had fresh paint so i filled it down to bare metal and now have good spark.

Progress is slow lately but i am thinking i should be ready to fire her up in the next few weeks.. (atleast for heat cycles anyways)

picked up a 450r hood. Not that I needed it but I needed to pull away from some of the red. It looks to be a fourworks or quadstar ? I am still not sure if I can make it fit proper.?? I will upload pics when I get the chance and try and get some feedback. Also still waiting on a good deal for front rims. I might just go the stock offset since I cant seem to find a good deal on the front rims I need.

When I did my 450 hood I cut about 1.5-3inches off my maier nose in places so the hood sits up a lot higher, sits more level, and an overall tighter fit. You probably won't want to cut it up but for me I was extremely happy with the results.

That's exactly some of the info I was looking for. I was looking around and I was thinking on how the hoods were up higher but yet didn't expose the bottom.. At first I was/am skeptical on cutting it up but once the hood is mounted it pretty much becomes one unit anyway..
By any chance do you have any pics of the cutting you did. I could leave it down low and it looks "ok" but its not the look I am looking for. So I will be cutting it. I just don't want to f it up. Or pics of what it looks like now.. ??

These are the pics I have and can grab more if need be. This is the rough cut I started with and how it ended up. I wanted to get the angles on the front of the hood to match/line up with the curve that was coming off of the fender.
The front of the hood hangs off the front of the nose maybe about a 1/2 inch or so. That allowed the two pieces to have the best tight fit. If the hood was sitting on the nose there would be some larger gaps along the sides.

I wouldn't be to worried about screwing up. As long as you keep the cut on the nose strait and clean it looks really nice even without the hood. I never liked how long the nose was to begin with and I even would've cut that much off again even If I wasn't running a hood after seeing how it looks.

Let me know if you need any more pictures or clarification!

Thank you. Actually it looks better the way you cut it than it does the way it is made without the hood like you said.. I was just nervous on cutting up new parts. At the front of my hood on the 2 corners it has 2 tabs that drop down. I can easily cut the hood to compensate for them. It also has 2 tab/hook things mid way up and 2 tab type things on the top. I will most likely cut them off or drill 2 holes for the top ones so the hood can attach to the plastics. Once I do that I think the hood will sit flush with the plastics.. As of now it has about a 1" gap.. Ill get some pics to help explain.

Mine used to have two tabs at the front but I had chopped those off so I kind of know what your talking about. I was pretty nervous so it took me a while. Yes pictures are always nice!

*cough, cough* knocking the dust of this thing.. Im about ready to go other than front tires and rims and just a couple odds and ends. I just can get myself to buy a new set of front 4/144 (Honda, kawi, Suzuki etc..) 4+1 offset rims. There has to be a decent used set out there for a decent price..
