YZF600 engine stuffed into a 90 blaster

Yes, did all the spatter give it away? Haha.

All I've got is a small 110v but its been working well. I'm using Lincoln innershield NR-211 wire lately and really like it. I have been chamfering the steel on thicker pieces so I can get better penetration with it.

I've read that flux can be used with chromoly, though it's not the best option nor is it NHRA cert. The tubing has been slugged where possible and will have gussets and bracing where I've lengthened the frame so I believe it should be fine for me.

I welded areas of the a-arm supports back in and they seemed to weld just fine.

Finished up the other front engine mount gussets. Move on to the rear ones and some frame bracing to finish up and I can remove the engine to finish welding the frame.

Also got some exhaust bent up but I may order a mandrel U bend to replace the the crush bends since they go down to 1.75" from the 2" pipe. The muffler sticks out a little too far for me so I'll cut an inch off or so and space it out a little.

I'll get some better pics in the morning when it's light out.

looking good, will the monster be ready for spring?

Should be. I've got motivated again and the weather has been great lately so I've been making good progress.

I'd love to start it up and hear this exhaust, never heard this motor with a Danmoto can before.

Welded the midpipe on and the tabs for the slip on springs. Now I've just got to make some flanges for the 3 headpipes so I can finish the exhaust up completely and for good. Pleased with how it's come out.

As for the fuel tank, a guy on the XS400 forum who is putting a 400 engine in a blaster (He did a trike on here before I believe with a DOHC xs400) showed me a 2.5 gallon tank so I made a mock up out of cardboard to see how it would look. Looks like an eye sore I think but it would be fairly easy to fit and I'd only need to pop the seat up to fill it. I want to fit one between the engine and seat but that would be a custom made one. Still deciding on if I want to make one or not. What do you guys think about the tank?

I made a quick and dirty cardboard mock up for between the seat and engine and filled it with water and put in 3 gallons with room to spare. Making one out of pegboard now to get it more accurate and can use it for making a steel tank.

This way I can put the battery and electronics under the seat in a much nicer smaller box.

IMO instead of steel, you should use aluminum. Not only for the lightweight factor, but also because it would be easier to work with and shape/bend. Either way you'll manage so just keep on :)

I don't have any way to weld aluminum or I would.

I'm still really undecided on which tank to go with. Behind the engine means I can't brace the frame where I cut it. not sure if it really is going to matter.

Made a better mockup out of the pegboard and that took much longer than it should have, haha. It's a little over 2.5 gallons so my cardboard one must have really swelled from the water pushing out on it to have gotten 3 gallons.

Anyway, I figured out a way to brace the frame how I want even with the tank in there so I'm happy about that. I'll get started on the metal work tomorrow possibly and bang it out.

I'm going to use pod filters, likely some UNI foam ones.

No, ill leave it bare and keep it filled up. Motorcycle tanks are all steel and as long as they aren't left outside for years with no cap they're fine. I've read many horror stories when it comes to tank linings too.

Ive also used electrolysis to remove rust to neglected tanks and worked great.

So I won't be starting it in 2015.

My wife was in and out of the hospital the last little while with migraines with aura. When it first happened she woke me up at 1 AM with symptoms like a stroke and was very freaky to say the least. What we think is causing them is a combination of stress and tension headaches from whiplash from a fall that she had while we were moving her grandmother out of her house and into an elder's home. Moving her and then moving her sister into the house ate up all our free time. Anyway, our chiropractor friend has been helping and her neck is getting much better. No migraine since Christmas day. Now that she's doing better I have been able to get a few minutes here and there outside.

Re-did the first cylinder exhaust. Clears the frame bracing I'm adding in that area from the lower frame rail to the a-arm.

Then I had to add the flanges so the header pipes can clear all the frame tubes.

Have to do the flanges for the inside two cylinders and then weld the collector and the annoying exhaust is all finished.
