widening a-arms

has any one tried cutting their a arms and welding tubing in to make the front end wider?

I dont think it would be too safe but a guy who I have ridden with a couple times cut his swingarm in half and welded 2in spacers in it and it seems to hold up good.

if you use some schedule 80 steel pipe that would definately be strong enough

I have done this to other a-arms the most important thing i discovered is to get a very thick walled tube so it can be machined down to slide inside original tube of the a-arms then i tig welded the joints

they have seen 2 seasons of mx & speedway no cracks apparent yet

the only way that I would ever trust it is if you sleved the new tubing to either fit over or inside of the stock swing arm tubing. I would never weld the same size tube to make extenisons. That is like haivng a death wish. Kinda like not tightening all the lung nuts on your car just to see what happens.

well personally i wouldn't do it even if its strong and doesn't crack, and send you flying off when it breaks it will look a bit crap.

people have done it. I've seen it, then they just bought aftermarket a arms. It more work than its worth.
