Guys, before I fire the motor up for the first time I would like to flush out the trans, I've read that alot of you run ATF but seem to be located in colder areas. Here in OK we are 70* to 30* back and forth right now. I plan on running ATF to flush out the tranny and picked up a magnetic plug to ensure that if anything is wrong I will know asap.

Question 1 - can I fill the case completely full and spin the motor over by hand going through the gears and then pull the plug and drain a few times without hurting anything? The motor has never been ran, should I drop in some 2 cycle oil in the cylinder to oil it?

2 - what is the best trans fluid to run? ATF is cheap, almost too cheap, can I expect to run it and be safe and how often should you change it?

I know, newbie questions, better to ask then to blow a new top end though!

i run gear saver 90 w in my crankcase and amsoil sabre in my gas. each their own, but we are 70s and 80s here for now. i dont have any problems with it. as for a flush... why would you want to flush it? i say just drain it, and fill it to where its suppose to be filled.

a lot of banshee guys run type f trans fluid in their trans no matter the temp they say it shifts better and the trans holds up great.I run the yamalube 10w40 designed for wet clutches.

your method for flush is just fine

Sounds good, the reason for the flush is because the cap was off when I bought it, it was in a box but dont know the previous condition, it looks fine but I just want to be safe!
