Shift problem

Start by checking all the external shift mech under clutch cover. Shaft straight? Pawl and spring good? Shift star tight on shaft?
A Clymers Repair Manual can be your friend, or find the pdf manual on site.

FYI one thread per problem works best.

You cant shift through all the gears without it running or at least pushing it

start with a leak test and then you can run the engine

put some fresh oil in it 650ml
it will help it shift better if the oil is new.
but you need to ride it to confirm it dont shift:)

to help answer your other questions in other threads .
if someone else did a clutch on it/and you have rode it and confirmed it dont shift
then you will have to open it up:)

NOT regular oil though, it cannot contain friction modifiers, must be approved for wet clutches, or the clutch definitely won't work right

But why won't it shift if you rock it back and forth like pushing back and forth?
Because it's not the same as spinning. It may take up to half a revolution of the shaft before it fully shifts.
Really need to investigate more before you change oil, incase you have to pull clutch cover. Need to inspect external shift mechanism. If you had another thread going, don't know what was in it.

Search terms for you to use: External shift mechinism, shift shaft, shift rod, pawl, shift star.

One way you could/should try it is similar to "bench shifting"

Jack rear wheels up, remove sparkplug (for ease) spin tires in forward direction and try shifting. Might need extra hand to do this for ease. Don't try shifting unless wheel is spinning. Firm deliberate shifts will work best.
