reeds mess up idle??

i think i need new reeds but im not sure, im gonna buy new ones but i wanna know if this is the problem

ok i got my new carb on today and took it outside to start it and it took a while to get the idle right, after like 5 mins of running easily it just started to idle really really high for no aparent reason, we took the reeds out and there is a little chunk off of the tip of one, this chunk is about the size of the comma(,) but would that be enough to make it do this?? also 3 of the 4 pedals were not sealing the whole way( i know this because when i took them out they were really wet and you could see where they were sealing) could this also be a problem

Yeah sounds like your reeds are shot, any size hole in the reeds can really screw you up.

thats what i thought but i wasnt sure and i just wanted to know if it could be anything else, i hope that is all it is
