Battle ground, IN
Well my son wanted a 4 wheeler and I came across a 2005 blaster for a good price. It ran well for a the first tank of gas then it ran out of gas and killed the top end of motor. I farm and he was wanting to ride so to save time I took it to a local shop to do the rebuild. Was hosed on the cost and wish now I would have taken the time to do it myself. Anyway here is the thing when we got it home he drove it for about 10 minutes and it ran fine. It set for a week and ran it again this time it started a little hard but did start and run. It idled fine but had lack of power at open throttle. We parked it and overnight it leaked fuel out on floor. Soooo what do I need to do? It has a 30mm carb with a KN air foam filter, it has a aftermarket exhaust. Any thoughts would be great

I would suggest checking the float height, and just the float itself.
See if it has any cracks, or gas IN the float. Otherwise the float height should me 21mm i think, dont take my word for it, someone else will know for sure

i would recomend switching back to the stock carb, much much easier to work on, we can help you alot more and you will lose no noticeable power. dont forget to fill the oil tank if you still have oil injection and LEAK TEST THAT ENGINE BEFORE YOU BLOW IT AGAIN!

it will most likely not be jetted to what you need but it is extremely easy to get it there. after you get the stock carb just post what mods you have done and we will get you in the ballpark. you can find a stock carb here in the for sale section or ebay

EDIT: you actually need 300 posts to buy or sell

you need 300 posts, or 30 posts and pay the $10 subscribing fee to post in the marketplace sections on here.
but you could still PM the seller and then it is up to that individual wether to make the deal or not.

get to post whoring to 30 posts, and subscribe here.......

maybe someone with more engine work would like to trade that 30mm for their stock carb ???

i see 2 stock carbs on ebay in the $50 range,
you'll also need a tors eliminator cap for your existing cable to work, and an idle screw kit.....

Blaster Banshee Tors Carb Cap for 26mm Carbs | eBay

Yamaha Blaster Idle Screw Kit w Tap Drill Bit 88 06 | eBay

btw...welcome to BF Roy !!!!

Why do I need idle screw kit? Is this for eliminating tors?

on the stock carb, the idle screw is on top of the tors brick, you either need the new tors removal cap and idle screw, or a stock throttle cable, which is shorter and connects to the tors brick.

or....

work on getting that 30mm tuned in this order...

leakdown test

i have leakdown testers if needed

clean your carb

Before getting another carb, why not try to make this one work. First we need to know what make and possibly what model carb, A pic or two might help. Then we need a better list of mods (modifications) on the quad. What pipe is it? Is the filter right on carb or do you have an air box? Lid or no lid? What brand pipe?

Start by cleaning the carb. http://www.blasterforum.com/carburetor-138/how-clean-your-carb-pics-209/ Even though you're won't be same as pictured it will help. I can't find the thread for cleaning the float needle seat, Never mind found it : http://www.blasterforum.com/carburetor-138/easy-almost-free-way-stop-leaky-carbs-33335/ I prefer to soak carbs in carb dip, and blow compressed air both ways through any passage. Might also want to be sure tank and petcock is clean.

What does the sparkplug look like? Is it new? Do you have a nice FAT BLUEspark, or a LAZY YELLOW spark? What type of oil are you using?

Might want to do a compression test and a leak down test. Did you take whole quad in for repair or just engine? Did shop give instructions on break in? By off chance did the shop say anything about the size of the piston? What exactly did the do? Fresh bore/piston?

Why do I need idle screw kit? You don't, your carb should already have one Is this for eliminating tors?
Yes on stock carb. Under the hood is a small box with three wires, make sure it is unplugged, that's the TORS "brain"

Yes it is. You can buy the kit or just replace your throttle cable with a stock one. Leak down testing and propped jetting will help your Blaster live much longer.
He doesn't have a stock carb

I was talking about if he bought a stock carb. Make sure you read all the posts correctly before you try to make someone look like a dumb ass .8-|

Here is what I have. I was told it was a 30mm carb but on the carb it says 28. The letters on the carb are OKO. The air filter is a foam canister with no box around it and it says unifilter. The exhaust says factory seven on it. We took the quad to a shop and they did top end rebuild. I remember them saying that they did not have to rebore it, I will call them to get specs on piston. What size is factory carb? If my float is the problem would it be cost effective just to get a new carb or can I just get a float. I read info on adjusting float but without seeing it done once Im not sure I can adjust it properly. Thanks for all the help!!!

you want to turn the carb and hold it on a slight angle to measure the float height, like shown here......

it should just barely be touching the inner needle, not depressing it,
holding it pefrectly horizontal like your pic shows may allow the needle to be depressed giving false measurements.

It is possible to check the fuel level by attaching a length of clear plastic tubing to the drain nipple , lifting it up the side of the carby, and cracking the drain screw.

The fuel should show in the pipe to the level of the carb body above the float bowl gasket.
