Ok so im working to put together a blaster I bought. I have a manual but the transmission section is vague at best. I know exactly how everything goes together. but Im having trouble with bearings. I have a set of matching cases from a 1990 blaster. and a good right side case from a 2002 (left side is busted near the chain.) I also have a box containing most of the 1990 internal parts. and all the parts from the 2002. while trying to find transmission bearings apparently there was a change between the 1997-98 year models where the part numbers changed on the bearings. I have no idea what i need to do. the transmission components and gears from the 1990 are in bad shape, but the 2002 parts are fine. should i order the 1988-97 bearing kit and use the 1990 cases with the 02 transmission or will that not work. or i could lap the 19990 left case with the 02 right case and go that route.

our cases are not matched sets, you can use any right and left side.
lapping the mating surfaces flat is a good idea.

and I'm not seeing what you are with the bearing part #'s, at least not on bikebandit.com
here's what I see for 1988 & 2006 models, the same manufacturers trans bearing #'s
which suggests they stayed the exact same thru all years

88-
part #10 - 93306-20469-00
part #25 - 93306-30442-00
06-
part #10 - 93306-20469-00
part #25 - 93306-30442-00

I was loogin at the bearing kits from hot rods and noticed 2 different kits. a tbk0073 for 88-97 and tbk0074 for 98-06. then comparing different part numbers on partzilla they list different part number as well between the different years on 2 of the transmission case bearings. cant recall off hand which 2 will have to check again.

you're right though bikebandit lists the same bearings for all years. I emailed hot rods tech asking the difference between their kits but have yet to hear a reply. will likely just use my old cases instead of mixing them. I know i should go with oem bearings but I'm running out of cash for this project. i already got oem crank bearings and all oem seals. figured since these were wet bearings i should be ok.
