You need to do these tests and check jetting or your next piston you install could end up the same

You can make one.search on the forum there should be some information. Nothing fancy needed. Home depot
It only test Around 5 or 6 psi.

Like slydog said you can make a leak down tester fairly cheap. They are really essential if building a motor or diagnosing a potential leak. After rebuild I will test mine before first start up making sure I have no major air leaks, then again after the 3 heat cycles and retorque of head. Sometimes you will have a small leak if tested before you seat rings that's why I check after the heat cycles also. To make sure you are jetted properly you need to do plug chops after it's rebuilt.
