keyway shearing??

my blaster has a new top end i put a new woodruff key in it and it will fire up first kick then the keyway breaks. what could be the problem

do u have the flywheel titen all the way down cus myn did this i just titend it down with an impack and didnt have the problem agan

either it's not tight or the taper is damaged. The keyway is only to locate the flywheel for timing, the taper is what acctually holds it in place.

i tightened it as tight as i could with a ratchet.

did you uses a tool to hold the flywheel so you can get it real tight?

I believe the torque spec is 53 ft lbs. Use that and you won't have any problems.

on my first blaster rebuild it came i n a box of parts and I left out the thick spacer washer between the nut and the flywheel, same result as you had. The worst of it my best friend rode away from the group and pushed the thing for nearly an hour back to the trailer.
