Ok did a leak down and have air coming out of the trans side where the vent tube is. I don't have oil in it yet does that mater? Or is it leaking because the seal is bad

This is a fresh build but the kid who I'm helping did not want to put new seals in and used the ones that were in it. I did not see any wholes in case. How can I tell if its the callor or the seal?
Take the cover off and spray soapy water, you should be able to see if the seal is leaking or wether it is passing between the shaft and the collar.
Collars occasionaly can go bad but usually a good cleaning on the collar and a new seal will fix it right up.
