Clutch side crank seals

BP Blaster, time, and a good impact with a 12 point would be my best bet. Stuff like this take patients and thinking. There are times when breaker bars and cheaters are not the answer.
why 12 point? that would be more than twice as prone to slipping and further stripping the nut

Thank you all for your great replies, i used PB blaster from the get go. Got cans of the stuff! What i didn't do was use a proper 6 point socket off the bat and now this happened. I'm hoping a real good impact will take it off, if not i may be forced to try these other suggestions.

And if you are in the spencer area! We should ride sometime, after i fix my quad :)

Because I see no loctab washer, possibility it might have loctite on the threads. A little heat on the nut might be needed, especially if it is red (Or green, God forbid)
Insert a penny, rag, or small wood wedge in the balancer gears to hold crank.

On assembly I use a bit of 3Bond on collar and keyway to crank.

Update! Just want to say thanks to everyone for the awesome ideas...I really liked the nut splitter o_O

Anyway, a friend of mine came in today and just so happened to have his 18v 1/2" Milwaukee impact gun on him. While he was grabbing the tool I found a 1/2" drive 6-point 3/4" socket and hammered it onto the nut pretty easily, it fit like a glove. This tool worked like a charm! and I am now back in action. Atleast until I put it all back together and find the next problem :)

Well unfortunately I got the whole thing back together and it seems to still have the same problem. I guess I am being forced to do a leak down test, Not sure what else would cause power loss and white smoke and oil coming out of the exhaust.

glad you got the nut off:)
is the crankcase breather tube routed underneath the gas tank?
or did someone connect it to the carb lol.
650ml of oil in tranny?
i would think if it is burning oil the level would go down to less than 650ml./measure it perhaps?
leak test.

The breather actually has nothing attached to it, i just recently put this engine in the frame. Ive put in a new drain plug and also taken the clutch side cover off a few times, today put a new gasket on it today also. So it has had a few recent oil changes. I do not measure the oil exactly but I try to put 2/3 the quart in after i drain it, hopefully thats in the ball park? Ive had 3 other blasters and never had black oil spraying out the tail pipe :(

Thanks again for all the replies and suggestions! keep them coming

if it has proper spark plug.
proper mix ratio of oil / gas.
carb is tuned right.
silencer packing is probably soaked by know but should still run right
its getting spark at the right time/strong blue spark.
then i guess only option is it is leaking tranny fluid into the cylinder.

Ya it has a new NGK B8ES in it, and i premix 32:1 it starts up really really easy...half a kick in a 50 degree warehouse
I just put a new stock jet kit in the blaster carb and it has tors bypass and a regular motion pro cable, carb screw out 1.75 turns. but since the engine is in a 400ex frame,it has a UNI stand alone air filter on it, and is being fed by a 400ex gas tank. But i didn't think this would be a huge problem?

I've never done a leak down in a bottom end, but if its not seals it would have to be the case would'nt it?

it should smell like the gear oil you are putting in it/if it is burning.
or it should smell like the 2 stroke oil you are putting in it.
it is going to smoke a little cuz its a 2 stroke/if you cant rev it clean and have it run/drive okay.
then something is wrong.

leak screen re 1 (1).jpg

i just watched your youtube crash video lol.
know i see why you got a 400ex frame:)
i was going to post it on here but you were swearing soo it would probably get erased.
nice video though:)
that is a pretty fast ride back for that much damage your crazy lmao.:)

Haha thanks that was my 04 blaster that i originally bought for my girlfriend, it was nice till that crash, i didn't even notice the frame was bent until the day after...This 400ex project is turning into quite a headache but i'm hoping it will work out good in the end! I am pretty tall anyway so i look goofy on a blaster(6'3") I also got a steal on this 400ex rolling frame for $100

Thanks alot for the leak down test picture I will probably be able to start that Thursday or Friday! I was really hoping this bottom end wasn't going to cause issues, i should have known better.

Actually it was written by an old member, I just modified it and cleaned it up.

Is that Unifilter stand alone fitted directly to the carby, if so you may need to increase the size of the main jet by 2 or more, and confirm by a plug chop.

Yes it is fitted directly to the 26mm carb, I had a feeling it was getting a little more air than it should be...but with all this oil burning I didn't make any final decisions. I'm not sure it is possible to do a plug chop since i cannot run the engine long until i solve the problem and the plug is brand new that's in now?

I can however change the main jet from stock i think its 230 or 240..and try to put a 260 in?

Thanks again for the help guys!

Well my Jet kit should be in the mail soon. I also went ahead and bought another Blaster just because they are awesome! Found a 2004 in complete OEM condition for a fair price, runs nice. Now I can pull this engine back out and play around with it without getting the riding itch...

I'm thinking that your cases are broken or cracked. People run Blasters until the skirt falls into the crankcase all the time. Make sure you replace the missing vent line after you sort things out or you'll end up with a transmission full of water.

Ya work caught up with me this week, I will not have time to do a leak down test just yet. I an interested to find out where the problem is though. I bought a cheap flywheel puller so I can change the other seals while in digging around breaking things. :)

There is no point in spending $.10 or 10 minutes time fixing anything on that motor till you do a leakdown test. As Ken mentioned, with your symptoms, it's VERY likely that someone dropped a skirt and smooshed the very thin case wall between the crank and the counterbalance shaft. It's amazing how some people are so negligent about doing leakdown tests.
