Air Filter Cage

So I was on ebay earlier messing around and saw an Air filter cage for a 2003 Blaster. I don't have one on my quad and honestly didn't know there was supposed to be I just assumed the cover was taken off and that was it. My question is, is it a big deal that mine is missing? should I buy it? or is it not a big deal. Not sure if it matters but I have a K&N with cover removed.

what kind of cage are you talking about?

the cover off is fine if you change jetting

the cage inside a foam filter is needed. i do not think its needed for a k&n filter though

The cage is used to keep the filter from crushing in on itself.

It is important. If the filter folds so to say. Than you could get large gap where air passes through and not through the filter and you can suck in debris and or cause a lean condition.

How would that happen though with the metal cover and being under the seat?

i dont see it sealing correctly without it.
the cage puts pressure on the intake to seal the filter...you would be able to peel it back with your hand which means dirt will enter.....then KABOOM

then you dont need it if it looks like the one i linked above.....it would not even fit onto a k&n filter...

that piece is for the foam filter/the k /n is cotton and much stiffer/where it seals then the foam

That's what I was wondering. Thanks I'm hoping sometime next week I can get the quad down to KOR and then will be good to go.

yup this one as pictured is all you need other cage your taliking about is for FOAM
