    Gladwin

Sorry forgot to bring the camera on this trip. If you like whoops then it's a great time, good variety of terrain, hills, forest, fields. There wasn't a lot of mud, good or bad ... and there was a lot of sandy trails good or bad. I don't remember seeing a passage to bull gap.

    Riding gear

What gear do you guys usually ride in on trails? Also, do you think it's better for fuel economy to be in too low of a gear (high rpm, good throttle response) or too high of a gear (low rpm, slower to respond).

    Gladwin

Oh yeah ... and I must be a fat ass because after so many ups and downs my friend pointed out that my muffler (which was absolutely beyond cleaning) was shiney and new. It looked like my tire was rubbing as it bottomed out. So that was interesting ... but then about 200 yards into the second...

    Gladwin

I took the blaster and my friend had his drz-400 up to Gladwin this weekend. We initially took the southern loop from the parking spot and it was pretty sandy and it was 80% whoops. So it was cool on the quad but the bike had some troubles. We hit some really deep puddles and got pretty...

    Popping Engine

Woohoo! I cleaned everything, replaced the gasket, head, tightened to spec, and it fired up and ran the best I've heard it run! I still need to deal the sparkplug, but I don't have time today. But there is no smoke or splatter or anything coming from the head gasket, and no popping. Thanks!!

    Popping Engine

I don't know what size jet. Is there a way to check? I would assume stock, but the guy I bought it from rebuilt small engine vehicles, so he could have changed it out. By plug chop do you mean just start it up for a bit and 'read' it?

    Popping Engine

Also a side note, there is not a bolt missing, the nut did not loosen on that one, and the whole two-sided bolt came out. Looks like I should be able to just screw it back in when I reassemble.

    Popping Engine

Here is what I did: 1) Drain gas tank 2) Remove tank 3) Remove exhaust pipe 4) Disconnect and remove spark plug 5) Loosen head nuts in a star pattern 6) Remove head What I found was that the top of the cylinder body (dunno what its called) and the bottom of the cylinder head were pretty gunked...

    Popping Engine

This is the quad I'm working on. 2000 Blaster. Ok yeah I only want to remove the head if I can. The base gasket seems ok from a visual inspection. They have a gasket at the local parts shop so I'll go pick it up later today. I'll take some pics along the way so we can check if there is damage.

    Popping Engine

Ok sounds like it's an easy job ... although I've never worked on the top end before. Do I have to remove the whole engine from the frame to do this? Are there any videos on it? Also, while I've got the head off, is there anything I should check for ... like obvious signs something else needs...

    Popping Engine

I took my blaster out for the first time this weekend. It was running pretty good but had a couple of weird things happen. Most I will probably ignore for now, but after getting it a bit wet I am hearing some bad noises. When idling it sounds ok except every maybe 30-45 seconds there will be...

    Good trails this weekend

I hadn't checked out Lake County ... sounds like a good option; but I hear ya on the weather, not looking forward to 39 degree nights and 20mph winds. The 'interactive map' is a good supplement to the 'trail map' to try to figure out where to camp. I think we're going to try to pull off...

    Good trails this weekend

I'm thinking of heading up to Leota this weekend. I've been on Abrose/Ogemaw and Grand Traverse with my bike but this is my first season with the quad. Any suggestions that is semi-close to Lansing? DNR - ORV/ATV Trail Maps Also any suggestions on places to camp near the trails would be...

    Rose Lake

Has anyone ever heard about trails around the Rose Lake area? I've heard a claim that there are but I don't see it on the DNR maps. Maybe there is state land or something? Dan Lash

    Big Thanks!

I just wanted to say big thanks to this site and it's members. I've never owned or maintained a quad before, and I bought my 2000 Blaster 2 weeks ago. So far using this site I was able to: 1) Read / Replace / Read my spark plug 2) Diagnose, replace, and adjust my clutch (huge thanks) 3)...

    Engine Revving

Awesome, I'm in business. Here's what I did: 1) ensured my air screw was 1 1/2 turns out from fully closed 2) turned my tors screw (under seat) all the way counter clockwise (lowest rev) 3) repeatedly tried to start it, then increased tors rev, with limited success of it running for several...
