Removing the Clutch

Okay, I'm still stuck on my clutch. All my parts are in, the engine is sitting in my (warm) bedroom, and for the first time in weeks I have time to play with my engine.

I can't get my pressure plate off, I've spent probably 2 hours trying different methods & researching ways people did this but not too many "disassemble" videos or info. I've tried holding the sprocket, looking for gears to lock up, holding the pressure plate...nothing. All of the clutch plates are off, the lock washer is bent out (so I can get to the nut to loosen it) and I can't find a way to get this thing off! I heard of a "universal clutch holder" and am thinking about dropping more $$ to get one of them, any advice guys? Getting frustrated X(

**Note, I'm replacing the front sprocket & the hardware for it

It is possible to rig up a way to set up a ratchet strap, and an impact wrench will get it straight off, just do not rattle gun it back on.

If you replace the front sprocket you really should be replacing the rear and chain as well, as a new sprocket with an old chain is a recipe for disaster.

Good point on the sprockets, is it worth it just to wait until next weekend & drop an extra $30 for the holder? I also need to pick up a leakdown tester as well so I'll hit Sears soon anyways

I have one of the clutch tools, not that it helps you any but it comes in handy. You should probably get one if you plan on ever working on them again. Once you have it you always will. Although you could hit it with an impact gun quick an get it off. If you don't have a impact gun use your regular ratchet and give it a good smack with a rubber mallet, sometimes that works it may take a few shots but it should work and of course hold the pressure plate with a strap wrench. An xtra set of hands comes in handy too so you can hold the ratchet while hitting it so it doesn't bounce back and go flying.

Yeah, a torque wrench has been on the list for a while without a doubt...the nut has 58lbs I believe...or that's what it should have
I have an impact gun & a strap, how should I set the strap up? I don't see what you guys are seeing yet so I'm a little lost on that part
If I can't get it to work with a strap, I'll buy the tool. Chances are I'll need it for reassembly & I'm sure I'll need it again in the future

The clutch holder a.k.a. clutch boss holder will definitely be more needed for the reassembly than it is for the removal ... Without the tool you may not be able to get it torqued to spec. I say go ahead and buy the tool, it sucks having to wait but as stated before you will always have it and you will have the peace of mind knowing the instal is done right ! While your at it you might want to consider buying a flywheel holder for $15, tho it obviously won't be needed for this job its almost guaranteed you will need it in the future.
