I was told side to side play in the connecting rod is ok but up and down play is not is the correct ? Bottom end bearings are good tho I believe. No play in the crankshaft whatsoever.

SOME side to side play is ok. not flopping like a fish in a pail, thats BAD. the rod should have NO up and down play at all.

No up and down play.

Manual says side to side play is 1mm, but I have known 3mm play without any noticable up and down.

Let me be clearer.

Side to side play at big end should be no more than 0.7mm.

I was referring to the play at the small end when rocked .

Well at the top on the small end it moves about a half to a quarter inch left or right big end is tight.. I guess next thing is crank bearings and seals

Well good news is I Dont have to split the casing. I had my neighbor measure the play and Im good to go. But Wat should I use for a solvent that wouldn't hurt anything ?

I you are wanting to rinse out the crankcase, you can use gas.

Then you need to....

Pour some 2 stroke oil in the crancase on the big end and small end bearing and down the main bearing feed holes, you need at least a tablespoon of oil to lay in the bottom of the case before you assemble it.
