Depending on how loose the bolts were it's possible the stator got damaged from the flywheel hitting it.

Threads for stator or cover?

Might be stripped out. But not sure the odds are high that both would be??? Did they come loose and you were attempting to tighten them or did you discover this when you were replacing the stator?

Ok so problem solved. Started looking at electrical. Removed flywheel. Turns out the stator bolts came loose. Didn't help that the bolt heads were stripped from the last time someone replaced the stator. So I cut some slots in the heads so I could tighten everything up until I get new hardware...
