i got a 04 blaster that the piston skirt broke on one side. what would be the best thing to do, the top of the piston looks good but like i said it just broke from one side of the bottom of the piston. I took it apart and thinking of getting a new top end rebuild kit from ebay for 170, what do u guys think i am a noob to this game any feed back would be highly appreciated... I:I

sounds like a bore and new piston are in order. most go with wiseco pistons, i assume is did scratch up the cylinder walls??

what you need to do is take it somewhere and get the cylinder mesured get the next size piston up take it somewhere and have it bored to the size of that pistion if the piston sharttered im beting that the wall clerance is off at the very least i bet the cylinder needs a hone

Im gna send the cylinder to Summit Offroad in Florida and have them bore and hone it and it comes with a wiseco piston, rings, wrist pins, and gaskets... what will be a good size to bore the cylinder cuz i know there are many bore sizes... i just want to feel a lil more power out of it

It would be better to just go up one size on your bore and save the rest of your bores for later. Port & polish, head mod, carb, reeds, exhaust is where you'll get more power.

It has been my experience, when a piston grenades inside an engine, the bottom end get one or more cracks and possibly a few holes too! The cases really need to be split and thoroughly inspected before re-run. If you leave aluminum bits down in the bottom end or your case is cracked, that new top end/piston isn't long for this world either.

if u broke a psiton skirt bro u need to split the cases and clean the particles out, u def are going to regret it if u dont, been there done that on the grenades. u only make that mistake once, because it cost a lot fix a motor twice, plus the navy teaches u steer clear of rework!

I'm gna pull apart the bottom part of the motor and make sure there are no more pieces and aluminum shavings. So boring it to the next size is my best bet, but what else would I need to feel a bit more power. I got a full system FMF exhaust and k&n filter, I was thinking of getting a sprocket kit for more torque or is it the same like a sports bike???

get some porting done, its about 150-175 for an average cost of porting, agg trail port, most people use KOR, WILDCARD, FLOTEK, all good builders. me personall am privey to KOR because he did my +3 for me. but u decide who u feel is right for u, porting is the best thing u can do for this little motor. bigger carb, reeds, all great things to get to make it run so much better.

I will not be held resonsible for others who follow me and blow their bike up:

I bought a blaster with a grenaded piston. I pulled the top end, bored/honed and new piston, rings, etc... Now for the bottom end (trash and holes) business. I fulshed the case with water for about 30 minutes , then used a whole can of wd-40 sprayed into the bottom end and sloshed around to coat everything in the bottom end. Then i reflushed the cases with a mixture of 2 stroke oil and diesel fuel(the above 2 steps make flushing with water ok other wise water is a no-no).

I put her alll back together and she has been running since that day about 9 months ago.

i need to try that out bro thanx, i dont know about the water but the oil and diesel sounds about right I:I

If you do decide to try and flush without splitting the cases, leave a mixture of gasoline/diesel and 2 stroke oil in the crank case and see if the level drops any and if puddles form under the cases.

all very good advice. It really sux to take the bottom end apart but sometimes that is what you have to do. you really need to search for leaks and sicivicdude gave a good way to do that above. you need to locate all the pieces of that shattered piston. once you have flushed that crank chamber out really well turn the crank with your hand and listen closely for any grinding sounds. if you hear any keep flushing. take the motor out of the quad so you can turn it upside down. then turn the crank slowly while spraying carb cleaner in there to get the alluminum to come out. good luck.... also drain all the tranny oil out and check to see if any of your cleaning solution get's into the tranny. that will tell you if you have a leak into the transmission

I know everyone trips about the water because its an engine, but the wd-40 afterwards is okay. wd-40 is "WATER DISPLACMENT #40". But everyone can make their own decisions. I'm just relaying information for use by the forum users.

And i did all this flushing with the engine out of the frame so i could turn the bottom end. ANd i also did what civic said, and left the bottom end about 2 cups worth of diesel and oil. I waited 2 days for parts to come in the mail and monitered for leaks. All good so i buttoned her up and ran her like a raped ape.

My 04 also broke the skirt so I sent it to go 40 over what do i do with the head or chamber. Do I also need to bore the bottom of the case or is that only for a stroker kit.

Trenching (bottom end case boring) is only for the longer stroke crankshafts.

Piston pieces have a tendency to get between the crankshaft and the cases and bust the cases outwards. You need to take a flashlight and look down all the way around the cases to make SURE you don't have a break anywhere. If you do, you have a couple of options.

You can check out some of them here:
