Brought a new toy tonight. RM250 grass kart. :)

Got it cheap as it has been sitting a shed for months as last owner had it loss spark and never looked into fixing it. The wiring on it is a mess and has a lot of wires and plugs that go to nothing. Going to give a real good clean and its covered it dust and dirt. Need to find a service manual and electrics diagram for this engine. Oh and yes the fire extinguisher is the fuel tank. :)

Anyone know if there is a way to work out what year the engine is? All I know is that its RM250. I haven't looked for engine number yet but will tomorrow.
 
Thanks, Here is some more photos. cleaned it up a bit tonight and removed the hacked up wire harness. Its running a UNI filter as I found out tonight when cleaning. Engine looks like it may have a oil leak.

Fun times here. Need a new Spark plug cap and will get a new spark plug to.

Going to get exhaust and carb off it tomorrow and look for engine number as I could not see any with them on. Also check carb / drain carb and do some more cleaning.
 
Dug a little deeper into it tonight.

Running a Mikuni 34mm flat slide Carb.

Still not 100% on year of engine. Hope to have engine off tomorrow night and do more cleaning. Then on weekend start sorting wires out. also need to do wheel bearings on 1 of the front wheels as I found out tonight when I pushed it.
 
Got the engine off and looks like its had a oil leak for some time and there was a build up of oily dirty crap under the engine on the engine mount plate, Also removed caliper and need new pads. Is running a o-ring chain. Going to get stuck into it on the weekend. :)

Engine photos. I haven't been able to find a model number / serial number on the engine. Only found Suzuki Made in Japan and the numbers on the cylinder and head in photos at top of page..

Going to need to find some brake pads as ones in caliper are 1/2 worn. Any one see a caliper or pads like this?

1x Red with green line
3x Yellow
1x Black with Red line
1x Black with White line
1x Blue (This one is under the sprocket. I'm sure its for natural light)

Wires that come out of the CDI box.
1x Black with Yellow line
1x Red with green line
1x Blue with red line
1x Black with yellow line
1x Black with White line
1x White with Blue line
1x Black with red line

Maybe 82 - 85 if it has no power valve .. may have traction problems :)

mmmmm Maybe its not a RM250 after all? Look at the photo in the message above of the flywheel. There is some type of cam wight that spins with I turn engine over. I couldn't see this in any 1982 to 1985. and the 1981 has a finned head and cylinder. Also I seen on ebay that the serial number is stamped in a clearing marked rectangle bit on the engine above the clutch but mines not.

Throttle cable splits into 2. 1 goes to the carb and other goes to the lever in the rear top of engine. Think its to do with the oil injection setup.

Also this engine has no reed cage or reeds. I can see the piston and ports on cylinder.

Look what I found hiding under the engine after cleaning grease off. Thank you eBay photos for letting me find it. Never seen a engine number under the engine before.

Would Suzuki use the same as Yamaha and be the 10th number for the year?

Dont know the vin as dont have the bike frame. only engine number. thanks for info on reeds
 
Whats this thing? I haven't opened it yet. Could it just be a oil filter? Both hoses off it go to carb and there is no wires going into it.

Also got the numbers off the CDI: 32900-13A00 and 070000-1200 Made in Japan.
Looking that up comes up with Suzuki TS250X 1984 to 1989.

85-86 LT250R CDI has 5 wires on it and mine CDI has 7

Just had a look over my photos and seen the wires inside the engine are a different colour then the ones coming out of the engine in this photo. I may have to dig a little deeper into this to see if some one has randomly join them up.

Can clearly see a Green with white light, Blue with yellow line, Blue with red line, and a red that looks like it might have a green line on it.
