I'm new to 2 stroke quads but have had dirt bikes and 4 strokes. I'm looking at a 2000 and a 1994 on Sunday. They are stock and have been sitting in the guys garage for some time. They have been" maintained" so the guy says. Anything particular to look at? Common problems? Sure signs of a problem? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

start it up, let it warm up for a minute or two take her to a spin.
hear any knocking or weird noises?
does it drive straight?
look at it from all angles make sure nothings bent.
test everything out, stop engine, lights high and low, see if the key works.
look at the sprockets make sure theres no chipped teeth.
test the brakes also.
if you find anything wrong, barter with him on the price.

rear brakes were a big issue on the older blasters. if they dont work, or are really squishy be sure to have him knock off some $$$ because of it. conversion keits to the newer brake system are cheap, but you will be replacing 2 of them. compression is a big thing on 2 strokes. anything over 100 PSI is considered good. under that and its time for a rebuild on the top end. a top end rebuild can be done for around $100 if you do it all yourself and only takes a couple of hours to do if you have a machine shop near by that will bore/hone your cylinder.

expect the plastics to be beat up from normal use and look at the oil injection system closely. look for cracked hoses, disconnected parts ect ect. they are known to go bad when neglected. oil block off kits are a must have so that you can run premixed fuel. it will save you a lot of $$$ in the long run and the block off kit is about $30 each.

look at the rear axle and bearing carrier. grab the rear wheels and pull them from side to side while looking for play in the bearings by the rear sprocket. if they are loose or wobble at all, they need replaced immediately.

when yur on it shake yur ass man, grab the grab bar and shake it around, push it up and down. bearings are when i see problems alot check swing-arm bearings, carrier bearings, front wheel bearings, a good sturdy platform means alot,,,,

Bought them!!!

1994 stock w/out the oil injection. Has original tires on it.
2000 Stinger pipe w/o the oil injection. Has flat sport tires with the originals on the rims.

The guy was a mechanic. He replaced the bearings in the 2000. He added grease fittings to both bikes.

$1800 for both!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the tips guys!
