extended a arms ?

Ha any one ever cut there a arms and extended it that way. Since im tight on cash since im only 17. I can get some 4130 pipe just wondering it thats a good idea or not. I know some of you guys do that with swingarms which i will do as well.
for shocks would it be better to use yfz450 front shocks or buy a set of works or the elka stage 1 shocks
