clip setting on carb

ive switched the 23o main out to a 270 as reccomended,now i get some sputter for a split second when i hit the throttle,seems to take a sec to get going,was wondering if the clip setting on the needle could be effecting fuel flow?
currently it sit @2nd notch from top,has 5 notches...
teying to avoid a bunch of removing the carb for tuning,want to get it right first time,or at least try,

where is the reccomended placement of the clip?

the needle controls the volume of fuel allowed to pass between 1/4 to 3/4 throttle opening, there are many many needles with different lengths, thicknesses and tapers, all of which alter the characteristics of the fuel flow, if you DROP the clip it LEANS it out because the needle sits lower down and hence has a thicker diameter allowing less fuel passed, and Vice versa
 
Can also try adjusting idle air screw slightly. Have you ever watched someone "tune" a musical instrument? Very seldom do they get it right first time. All the "strings" have to work in perfect harmony. This also why no one can tell you exactly where you need to be because we may be seperated by thousands of miles and can only give a starting point/range.
What also may help if you have the room is get it warmed up (must) get rolling in 1st or 2nd at idle. Give it a little throttle to see how it runs at low setting. If it needs turn air screw 1/8-1/4 turn either way and see if it's better . Might take a couple tries to detect if it's better or worse. If worse go 1/8-1/4 turn other way from start point. Then move on to needle, idle to half throttle , you want to roll into throttle posistion, not stab it. You look for smooth operation at any and all throttle posistions. In the Clymers manual is a good diagram of which circuts control which throttle openings and how they all overlap.
Always make sure the carb and air cleaner are squeeky clean or you'll chase your tail.
