havent had time to make a leakdown tester yet but top end is gone. what would cause an air leak, and what would the air leak do? just tryin to understand the techno babble.

alot of things can cause air leaks. broken boot on your intake side or reed side of your carb, top end not torqued right, top end gasket broken or missing... any gasket missing for that matter, reeds not seated right... an air leak would cause your bike to run lean which in turn will suck in too much air and blow your top end. i am not exactly sure what the science in all of it is, but now you know what i know.

any place air can get into your crankcase or topend will cause a lean condition leading to overheating, predetonation and eventually kaboooooooooooom.

am air leaks allows air into the motor that is unaccounted for by the carb, ie, the carb doesnt know about it and therefore hasnt compensated with the correct amount of fuel to form a anice combustable mixture, therefore you get more air than fuel which messes up the mix causing lean running and extra heat and that leads to bang bang, as Surf co nicely put it...Kaboooooooom!
