so i pretty sure im gonna do the diy advance timing this weekend, my only concerns are the possiblities that i shear the timing key on the crank not getting the flywheel tight enough... and has anyone who has done had any problems with the stator plate moving or not being able to tighten it down enough?

It may pay to check the mating surface of the taper in the flywheel for signs of spinning.

If it is unmarked you should have no problem if you follow /\ /\ /\ 53 ft lbs, with no Loctite.

Thanks guys.... there are no signs of wear on the flywheel so im gonna break out the rulers and files and get to work on this... and just by chance have either of you done advance timing and if so how much of a difference was there?

I did the +4 to my lads bike.

You will not get any more power from timing advance, but the power you have will come on earlier.

A pipe like the FMF Fatty or DMC Alien, pipes which favour low/mid power work really well with a +4 advance and a reed spacer between the reeds and jug.

Power onset is moved a fair amount and comes on hard at a lower rev.

Beware that you will loose some top end oomph.
