2004 Blaster cleanup for Christmas present

I've been searching through the threads on here, regarding going with a xenon hid. From what I can tell I will need to add a small battery and charge it externally at a bare minimum, or battery, rectifier and upgraded stator to charge the battery ideally. These were older threads though, have there been any further advances or changes in the needs for running an hid bulb in the blaster?

I don't think so. Do y you really need an hid? Is he going to be riding at night a lot?

He doesn't really need an HID, but he's 15 and loves the look. He will also be riding a lot at night it gets dark here almost 5 o'clock and you're allowed to ride till nine in our development with an ATV. In the summer it wouldn't be dark as early, so not as much then.

I was juggling with the thought of putting hids in my blasty but its just too much work. Im thinking of getting this for my blaster, Tusk Super White Bulb H6M 35 35W 60 Watt Head Light Yamaha Blaster 200 2003?2006 | eBay

IIRC ? from the DIY battery thread, you need only to float the ground of the lighting coil in the stator and run it and the power wire to the rectifier to feed the battery.
i know the 03+ stators are a 5 wire system, the extra wire being a green ground wire, so they may already have the ground needed for the rectifier ?

I used a rectifier from radio shack when I converted my kx250 into a street legal bike. used it to charge a small 12 volt battery and run my lights.

Ok I'll check into it, it is getting too close to Christmas to worry about it right now, I'm starting to wonder I the led taillight I planned on putting on it is going to work at this point. I have the led taillight/side mount plate setup that came on my bike when I bought it and am/was? Going to cut it down and weld up a bracket and powder coat it for use on here since there was no taillight. Guess ill check it first.

Never thought of radio shack, half the time I forget they exist anymore lol
 
What exactly makes the hid I not work without the battery setup? Does voltage drop below 12v at idle? Or does it not reach 12v at all? The blaster is in the shed hidden until my stepson is not home again so I haven't been able to take voltage readings, but it's been bugging me as to what makes it not work.
 
Oh wait, does the blaster produce ac voltage in stock form? Thus the need for the rectifier? I always called them ac to cd converters if that's the case.

Yes, only AC voltage. You need a rectifier to convert AC to DC. The HID lights are DC voltage. With the blaster voltage regulator and a rectifier, your all set for DC bulbs. Problem now is the stock blaster coil I don't believe puts out enough to run the HID bulbs.

I think it could "power" the hids to run, but hids need a lot of power to fire up. Thats what the ballast is good.
 
The tail light will probably work, but will look like a strobe :eek: , which the boy will like I:I
