    KTM chassis/Blaster engine - BUILD!!

Ok thanks for all the suggestions people. I just might try a used pipe sometime but I want to finish it first and see what else needs changed before I get back into the pipe. I cant use the factory tank and shrouds because of the cooling fins. The stock ktm jug is about the size of a...

    KTM chassis/Blaster engine - BUILD!!

Well finally made some more progress! This was 4 hours ago: And these I just had to take after all the cutting/welding/mockups... It does run alot better now and no clearance issues. It seems to have a hanging idle and the power still seems very flat as in no "hit" Everything...

    KTM chassis/Blaster engine - BUILD!!

The money spent at a long shot and the neck has to be long to get past the frame and to the motor so I need to modify something anyway. Might as well mod a factory free pipe IMO. I still have desire to make this work but I'm kinda afraid it'll suck up a bunch of time and I'll be disappointed...

    The blaster powered kx80

Yea just hold onto it! I'm the one that was attempting the KTM/Blaster hybrid. I got it to the point of being able to ride it. It runs (not good) and I rode it maybe about 15 mins with no problems. I'm just kinda getting to the point of where do I go from here! So I can understand where you're...

    KTM chassis/Blaster engine - BUILD!!

Well very little progress on this project. Very busy with work but I had time to find a tank and do a mockup! I think I have everything now to complete this thing (cept maybe a rear fender) It's an '82 YZ 125 tank and it seems to fit pretty well. So back to dreaming/the drawing board...

    KTM chassis/Blaster engine - BUILD!!

Do you run one of these pipes?? If so could I see some pics of how it wraps around the engine/frame? Also brandoz28 - this low end would be clip position correct? I'm not too familiar with smokers as I've been riding four strokes since I was 16. I would want to raise the needle (or lower the...

    KTM chassis/Blaster engine - BUILD!!

Well I got it out and ran it today. The good news is that it runs but not very well. IF I can get it up in the rpms it's fine and sounds like it's running great but at a certain rpm it just dies and kinda sounds "bound up," backfires, and then shuts off. Hi rpms tho it sounds perfect. Could this...

    KTM chassis/Blaster engine - BUILD!!

Yea I'm anxious to find out too! I'm kinda hoping 200 ktm - 200 yamaha? I know theyre not built with the same power curve and everything but I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Today reminded me why I want to do this project - did a 70 mile enduro and got my XR400 buried in the mud. Stalled it...

    KTM chassis/Blaster engine - BUILD!!

She runs!! I posted this on Thumpertalk too but I thought I'd put it here as well! I'm sure alot of you had given up on me. It's been a crazy couple of weeks but today it's rainy and I had a chance to work on it. Got the twist throttle on and the pipe is on but not quite right. I'm really...

    Yamaha blaster wiring

Ok so just splice in and back out kinda like a Y with the bottom of the Y being the voltage reg? Thanks appreciate your whole write up!! It helped me alot - had my mock up wiring done in like 10 mins and the thing runs!! I:I

    Yamaha blaster wiring

I'm not too great at electrical work but I kinda know the basics. I'm doing a project and not starting with a complete blaster. Wouldn't the 12v (I'm guessing this is where you would get headlight power?) need to have a voltage regulator before it sends power to the headlight? If not I thought...

    KTM chassis/Blaster engine - BUILD!!

Ok here's a stupid question but here goes: the coil - it's got two holes and I'm guessing it needs to be mounted with both of them to work?? If it does that means more cutting/welding not that that's a big deal but jw! Other than that - all that's needed is pipe, rest of the wiring, and a chain...

Cutting cooling fins?? Can it be done??

I want as much gas as possible so that I can use the bike in enduros (sometimes up to 50 miles at a shot.) Also I'm thinking against cutting them for the idea that my average speed in tight woods sections is about 20 mph - on the gas weavin in trees 20 mph doesnt seem like enough to cool the...

Cutting cooling fins?? Can it be done??

The frame and motor work well together - it's the gas tank that doesnt. The factory tank on an exc comes down around and like hugs the jug. On the original liquid cooled engine, the jug is like the size of my fist but not the case on the blaster engine. Thanks for all of the input though from...

Cutting cooling fins?? Can it be done??

Yea I know it would obviously cut down on the cooling. Just thought I'd throw it out there and see if anyone had ever done it. I guess I'll just have to try like a ttr tank on it. I'm kinda tryin to plan out my scheme a lil. I was thinkin bout stayin totally with the ktm look or else all (or as...

Cutting cooling fins?? Can it be done??

Putting a blaster motor in a KTM chassis and need to shave about an inch off of the jug just on one side to get the factory tank to fit. Will this be a problem with building up too much heat or can it be done no big deal? Thanks in advance. Here's my build thread...
