hey guys i have a 1970 ford f100 ranger with a 351 cleveland (big block) out of a ford torino... i was wondering if 351 windsor (small block) headers would work on it. i am really wanting some BBK shorty headers for it but can only find them for a 351 windsor or a 302... i want to run bbk shorty headers, either bbk h pipe or bbk x pipe, flowmaster 10 series mufflers (a very aggressive sound and tone, really loud but i love this combo!)... does anybody on here know anything about these?

Very familiar with both 351's. The cleveland is still considered a small block but the valve placement is offset similar to a big block. The windsor uses a inline valve placement just like a 289 and 302. There are other differences but thats the short version. But to answer your question, no, 351W and 351C headers will not interchange. The port shape and bolt pattern is different.

glad you cleared that up, cause i wondered when a 351c became a big block ???

YIp that would be a hell no!

The Sanderson FC2 header set fits Ford Cleveland/Midland engines in 1953-71 Ford F100 pickups.

Only headers I could find for your truck since the 351C wasnt a factory option. They are a little pricy but I have used sanderson headers on a S-10 350 conversion years ago and they are a very well built header. There is a footnote about what head they fit, you may need to buy a adaptor they offer if you have 2 barrel heads. 351C had 2 different heads, 2 barrel and 4 barrel. Port size is the main difference. And dont assume that you have the 4 barrel heads just cause there is a 4 barrel carb on there now (a mistake I have seen many times), could have been converted before you got the engine. Best way is to measure the exaust port size and call sanderson before you order.

You would be shocked how many times I heard people refer to the 351C as a big block when I worked at the speed shops, used to crack me up! With the way the valves are arranged, I can see where people think its a big block.

Well my grandpa got the f100 with a 300 i6 and then got the Cleveland as just the block and built it... I would ask him but he died back in 09 and my granny only knows that it is the 351 cleveland with a 4 speed tranny and came from a ford Torino but of sure of what year... It has good sounding exhaust but I want something louder. I will probably buy some headers and flowmaster 10 series mufflers and get my exhaust shop to build a h pipe to fit and dump them over the rear end... I'm wanting 2.5" since 3" would probably be too big and sound trashy. What do you think puma?

2.5 for sure. I never used the 10 series flowmasters, I always ran the 40 series.

different tastes i guess, i like the 10 series better but the 40 don't sound bad, just a little on the quiet side. and i had always been told the cleveland was a big block so i never knew any different. do you think the exhaust shop can make a h pipe for it? do you think an x pipe would be better without giving up any sound? thanks!

X-pipe is a little quieter than a H-pipe. A good exaust shop should have no problem making the exaust. The 10 series is a single chamber, it will be very loud for a daily driver with turn downs. I guess it all depends on what you want. My DD (03 cobra) i dont want too loud, prefer the stealthy but with some muscle sound, but thats with stock cat. converters and tail pipes. Now my race car is a different story, lol!!

alright i'll go with the h pipe then, and yeah i know the 10 is a single chamber, i got it on my 96 ranger... yeah i want mine to sound badass and it'll make a HUGE impression up at the school parking lot. and i don't mind a loud vehicle (everything i have is loud). and yeah you definitely have to make the race car sound awesome! the headers shouldn't matter as long as they're for the cleveland right? and should i go with the headers you listed or some others? i seen some on ebay that were ceramic coated for around 300.

wow....impressions at the school parking lot ???

and i thought you wanted everything you own as loud as possible to scare the kentucky possums off the road

Headers have to match the engine AND chassis to fit properly. A header for a different year truck, mustang or any other car with a 351 cleveland wont fit your truck also. Frame rails, steering shaft are all in differnt locations . And if its a 4x4, then you have an axle and driveshaft to deal with.

What engine is in the ranger?

it is NOT 4X4 so one less thing to deal with. and yeah i just want it to work but not be corked up with the stock headers (atleast i assume they're stock haha)... so the headers you showed me WILL work then?

Hell with the mufflers, just straight pipe that mutha! I:I

I do remember when louder is better! Or should I say if it's too loud your too old!!!

not just at the school parking lot, but everywhere i go... and i scare more than possums off the road!!! haha how's your ranger doing man? my ranger has the intake tore off getting the gaskets replaced to try and fix my lean codes, then ball joints have to be replaced along with brakes... i have a jeep i could drive but the fuel gauge doesn't work so i refuse to try lol... i am getting this f100 tagged and registered sometime in february, my Granny still has to get everything transferred.

nah man i hate straight pipes they sound trashy... i'm going for shake the ground loud but with good tone as well. plus, straight pipes destroy engines burning out valves and all that. i think the setup i have planned will be exactly what i'm looking for, i've seen the same setup on 302 mustangs and they sound beastly so my 351 cleveland can only sound just as good if not better!

Just put HI-flow cats on and then straight after that with 4" opening u'd be amazed at the sound! Been there!
