Trying to start my daughters quad fro the time after an engine rebuild. I can get it to sputter for 5 seconds or so but definitely not right. The engine is stock, pipe is stock with a pro circuit silencer. No air box lid. I have stock jets (got them from AWK) in the carb. I checked the woodruff key and it's still in there and working, the carb is cleaned. I think the float may be out a bit as fuel does run out of the overflow if I leave it on. I do have spark, it seems weak but it is there. The bike will fire first kick and run like its flooding for a few seconds, if I try to give it a little throttle it just dies. I can repeat this sequence every 5 minutes or so.

I don't have the small washer that goes in the carb I just have the splash guard kind of propped under the jet for now. I don't think that would make a difference for just trying to get through the heat cycles on this engine. I plan on buying a new plug even though the one in the bike is new but I am running out of ideas.

gotta get them floats set first....

if that doesn't stop the flooding...

if that fails, you'll need a new float needle/seat, buy them in a rebuild kit for under $20 on ebay,
if bought seperately, i've been qouted $50+ from the dealer for just the needle/seat.

set your airscrew at 1.5 turns out to start, then....

check your reeds while you have the carb out, all 4 petals should be intact and closing completely
and get a few new plugs, they can foul instantly, especially when flooding

you'll also need to get that brass washer for the main jet,
1/4 - 3/4 throttle pulls fuel thru the main for the needle circut

Without the brass washer under the main jet, the needle jet is positioned incorrectly and can return a very rich needle mixture.

You will be able to do heat cycles with the stock jets and they should supply enough fuel to run the 2 tanks of fuel at no more than 3/34 throttle for break in.

Do not attempt WOT or a plug chop without increasing the main jet at least two sizes to suit the no air box lid.

Has a leak test been performed?
