so i was looking through this post

and thinkin what about reinforcing the tie rods with an outer sleeve, something like a piece of gas pipe split down one side and slid over the rod, then weld the seam to the tie rod ...adding some more resistance to bending while making it stronger

where do they normally break? at the threads or in the middle

ive bent em before and we just bend em back almost strait

The tie rod end is the weakest link BY FAR. You can buy an upgraded tie rod set that used external thread tie rods but then you're stuck buying replacement tie rod ends in that style.

if the tie rod can't bend the spindle will. tie rods are cheaper to replace.
