recondition chain

Hey guys. I did a search but couldn't find what I was looking for. My chain has been sitting around for a while in a damp garage. I was trying to find a trick for reconditioning it. Its a little rusty. My buddy said to soak it in motor oil (new or used) anyone ever hear this or have any other ideas? Thank in advance guys!

soak it in Diesel

Just buy a new chain, if it's old or dirty beyond belief then just get a new one with new sprockets.

its not in bad shape. I just want to clean and condition it

Soak it in kerosene for a day or so, cean it up with a stiff brush.

Immerse in oil , working the links to allow the the oil to penetrate, or fit it and spray with chain oil whilst it is revolving.
