So we were looking for a new system to ride seeing as the north half of the state is now a part of Lake Superior, and I happened across a little place called the Appleton Area Recreational OHV Park. Google maps informed me that it is just 2 and a half hours out of the twin cities. 2 and a half hours is about the time it takes to get to Baxter MN for the spider lake area trails, but in my mind, for sport quads, Appleton is far superior. the park consists of just over 300 acres and about 20 miles of trails. the trails are full of intersections and can be covered in a single afternoon, this area is also full of gravel pits and some pretty sandy stuff, but the best part of the whole place is the ATV track. Big doubles, small doubles, tabletops, rhythm sections, long corners, tight corners, Its fun for the whole family! Northern MN has a lot to offer, but what they don't have is purpose built jumps and tracks. If you're looking for a good fun day trip, Appleton is the place.
