You don't need to upgrade you stator at all, because the rectifier converts ac into dc and charges the battery. The lights run off the battery at almost half the draw that your halogen bulb does now.

HID are the ticket for night time riding.

I thought you needed at least a 75 w stator to provide enough to keep the battery charged , and a modification to the stators ground is required .
Phragle has explained this before , but maybe there is more than 1 way?
