Engine dieing out! New quad help please?

First of all hello every 1 im new to the forum

I bought a blaster today and it seem to start tidy but it doesnt rev , As soon as you touch the throtel more than a bit it dies and cuts out

It does have a Full FMF fat pipe but thats the only mod on it

If any 1 could help me please? would be much greatfull

Sounds like the TORS or the e-brake sensor. Are they still in place? how many turns out is your air idle screw? What jets are in it? Air filter and carb clean? Check out the links in my sig.

Sorry i dunt have a clue about the sensor and so..!

Its my first quad only had bikes before - As for the jets it hasnt had or got none in the carb as far as i no as the guy i bought it off said he didnt put a jetting kit in it.

And the air filter and idle screw not sure ether as i will have to have a look tomorrow Dont no much about quads
Can some 1 help me out what would i need to do and buy?

i would recomend you spend some time and research on the blaster... lots of info on this site
when you have more specific questions about how to do things we can help a lot more.
i will try and help with what info you have given thus far...
the air screw is on the side of the carb (left side) and richens and leans your air/fuel mixure.
the parking brake on the left handlebar has a switch in it. they are known to cause this problem your talking about. do a search on it and see what comes up. i have never had this issue but have read about it.. sounds like you need to check your reeds out as this can also cause the symptoms your describing as well as bad fuel and fouled sparkplug. hope this helps.

yep, all of what surf said !!!!
but we need to at least know what year bike it is, pre 03 will only have a "tors" system, that will cause exaxctly what your describing, 03+ blasty's will have both a "tors" and a "parking brake" system that will cause it to not rev, while the parking brake is on, or if it is faulty
the tors (throttle override system) and parking brake systems are both known to cause problems and can both be eliminated

and better get that carb off, cleaned and make sure theres at least a 270 main jet in there to compliment that fmf pipe, or she's gonna fry

I have done a bit more info, it has stander carb and jets. i have been told to put a 260 size jet is that about right for a full FMF fatty exhaust?

I am not sure on the air screw how far should it be out? i will try find out now!
I have a little metal thing on the front brake to lock the brake, Is thats the parking brake? - If the tors is conectted to the carb then then i have that on there

I also i found the spark plug is really tight in the engine and i couldnt undo it so im gona have to take the tank off to get it out!
I will buy a new spark plug and get clean fuel to put in.

yeah put a 260 jet for the exhaust, 1.5 turns out on the air screw is the norm, what year is this blaster? if u have electronics going into the ebrake unplug them, also if your bike is a pre '03 take the hood off and unplug the smallest black box under the hood, as u look at it it will be the one on teh upper right, its your tors brain. good luck dude

So after a quick check 1 and half screws out the air screw is
And the year is a 2000 - i will take the front plastics off and have a look now and report back soon

Is the E brake the wire that runs from the front down the side by the carb running to the back axle?
If so then it has been unpluged also i checked all the wires and i toke off 4-5 wires off that wasnt conected to any thing:-/

So got it started but it only starts with the choke half way out and it was tiking over tidy and i managed to give it a few revs at about 10% throtle - Any more and it was bogging and cutting out!

If the choke is off or on full , It starts for around 2 - 3 seconds then cuts straight back out

Sounds like yuou need to check the reeds out... after you replace the plug. The reeds are like a one way valve between the carb and the cylinder. You can take the carb off and either try and look or feel inside to be sure all the pedals are still intact.

I think i no what you mean does the carb connect to it.
Would it be a good idea to buy some VForce3 and put on to it?

And i carnt seem to get the plug out havent got a spanner to fit into it as its 2 small of a gap - is there a spark plug spanner for them that i can buy or some thing simlar.

if you want some new reeds you can buy vf3's or you can get some boysen replacements for the stock cage. of course vf3's are some of the best you can get, just a little pricey.

use a 13/16th deep socket to remove the sparkplug to keep from stripping it.

So ill go for the vf3,s have to order them next week can only seem to find them in america so will take a while to come back to and yea there are pricey.

£90+ so like $145 - $150 << Is that a good price

pull yours and make sure they are the culpret before you go spending money. you need a 13/16 deep socket. 14mm is to small.

First quad so dont no to much about parts if you can explane a bit easyer please

Its no pain. Pull the reeds off and check them out. There are 4 10mm bolts that hold the intake and reeds onto the jug. Reeds should not be missing or broken and should lay pretty flat to keep air from returning into the carb.
The plug you need is a b8es. Any decent socket set should have the socket you need to get the plug out.
The link for the socket is right and the 2nd plug is good. Get a couple plugs they are nice to have in case you foul one from running rich.

you dont have to take the tank off just fit the socket in therebu it's self and get it on there then put your ratchet on so thet way it will fit good luck...........
